Resource management

With the resources that are available within the home or within the local community are you able to assess and see whether any of them ‘fit’ accurately with your individual specific needs? What makes a good resource in the first place? Is it something that is easily obtainable or something that you watch and monitor how it works over an extremely long period of time to determine whether it it right for you? Can you see other resources available to you all in one place? Is there a lot of choice? Is that what the result of deprivation is or are others stopping you from accessing a particular type of resource?

When things are offered to you, do you accept or is accepting going to result in hardship which you know to avoid? Or was there a lack of resources available in the first place because of such a high level of competition that no one resource ever matched your needs? So what do you do? And more importantly, who makes that decision? A parent is forced into making certain decisions when there aren’t enough resources available.

When families and communities have the ability to build things for themselves e.g. home schooling or supported employment opportunities they are meeting the needs of that individual or that community. When does it become a bigger issue that the highest level of government should be paying attention to it and monitoring what is happening? What is the role of the Disability Royal Commission? Who records all of the voices and details in between?
