Many families follow their therapists recommendations and spend time going back and forth between different shops collecting items to make up kits that work exactly right for their child / young adult so that they can play for longer periods of time independently or to enable them to learn new skills when working with their families. One part of that toy, a part of another can be linked together to make a ‘kit’ that works exactly right.

Therapists keep a working knowledge of most types of mainstream toys in their thinking and regularly need to move through the toy stores / shops / online to look at what is available.

Therapists cupboards may store toys that have been kept in the therapists working clinic for decades and decades due to their significant value and yet others will be newly purchased to keep up with the types of activities that are being interacted with.  Some themes such as dinosaurs, cars or marble mazes may never go out of interest for kids so therapists will keep them stored for those times when they need access to them. This can make it challenging for families who can’t replicate a toy that is old to enable them to be used at home, making them only available for use within therapy sessions. However, there is huge importance in having these types of toys as therapists keep them to link them with other toys or activities to bridge the gap to enable progress across a range of areas that would not be possible without this exact correct piece of equipment.
