Accountability

When is the pay off with learning. When do you receive that star? That sticker? That reward that was promised?

 

One of the issues with this type of process for learning is that there is no value to the tasks being completed. You may be simply going through steps only with the desire to get to the reward level. The relief of getting there.

Who is that relief for? You or your partner who is with you on the journey? You or your family who now doesn’t need to stay so focused on ‘your’ learning and ‘your’ goals so that they can go back to doing their own things?

Why do I bring this up >> jealousy over what others get rewarded when there are only so many things within the prize box. Did you know what was in there to start with? or are you learning through watching the reaction that others get, so you decide I want ‘that’ reaction? What is your goal? What is your accomplishment?

 

How do you measure your own progress?

Is it through the quantity of hours that something took?

Now comes the real kicker. It might have taken a certain amount of time which you perceive has value that you should be paid for the added up hours and days and weeks and months and years of your life you have spent to achieve something. but. this was YOUR GOAL. Not someone else’s. So when you want to get paid for all those hours, all those sacrifices. You need to be careful. There is value in your time. But YOU MAKE THAT CHOICE TO SPEND YOUR TIME THAT WAY. Others don’t force you to do it. You can communicate at any point in time that you don’t like it and don’t want to do it.  So unless you are being forced to do something then the amount of time that something took is something that ONLY HAS VALUE TO YOU. YOU like doing things in a CERTAIN WAY. Not others. YOU MADE THE CHOICES to persist for that level of quantity of time. So when you want to get into the reward box, regardless of whether it’s the size of the hug, the size of the sticker, the size of the monetary prize you need to be careful about what you are really wanting. The size and duration of an activity does not equate with feedback that you should be expected from others.  There are way too many variables as to why someone gives feedback in a certain type of way in one situation and not in others.
