Discussions of choice and control for funding options for high school students can contribute to significant distress and anger at how resources are distributed when it comes to use of ‘their’ NDIS funding plans. Navigating through choice and control requires an understanding of what options are actively available as a ‘resource’ in the local community where the individual and then, also, what resources can be created from those limited options. Choosing options for future planning requires a comprehensive assessment of all of the resources that are available within the local community that provide specialist support. Yet. Parents are also able to find other service providers who are the right fit. Yet the right fit lasts for how long. Who is the one doing the work of programming. Is it the parents who are preparing everything before the individual goes somewhere or has an appointment, or is it the service provider who has skills at developing individualised programming rather than a standard plan or list of options.
